HISTORY OF GEISHA
Geisha is an original variety of coffee that was discovered in the 1930s in the mountains around the Southwestern town of Gesha, Ethiopia. It is considered to produce a very aromatic and floral cup of coffee and the demand for it has grown in recent years according to Wikipedia. Geisha has sweetness, clarity and sparkling flavor that may range from berry, citrus, mango, papaya, peach, pineapple, guava, and jasmine. Quite a bouquet for some palates. It's also recognized by the distinctive bergamot oil and orange peel taste, often described as Earl Grey tea.
The most important factor for a good Geisha is altitude. The higher elevation slows down the growth of the crop to allow the berries to ripen so they can gain the most flavor. Time creates dense beans with a delicious flavor.
Geisha Coffee is a rare Panama export in the exploding world of coffee. Thousands are venturing in from all over the world, and are willing to pay top dollar to get it. Geisha is currently the most expensive coffee in the world!
Three different processes (natural, honey and washed) produce different flavors so what you get is always a surprise. There are also so many varieties of Geisha like Catui, Geisha, Typica, and Bourbon to name a few. There are so many flavors so that's why it's comparable to fine wine.
